Timeline

4 weeks

While Working for Mojang Studios, I worked on a number of tasks that supported various systems in the Minecraft Ecosystem. The most substantial was the login process.

Mojang was moving away from Mojang accounts to Microsoft acocunts, but their account migration rate was only at about 14%. To boost those numbers, the product managers wanted to configure the signin process from start to finish. That meant updating the UI surrounding Sign In

Challenge

The key challenges that led to the need for a redesign included:

  • Outdated Visual Design: The original design used dated color palettes, fonts, and icons, which followed an old design system that was well out of date.

  • Lack of Clarity: Users were not aware that Mojang was owned by Microsoft, so informing them of the benefits of migrating accounts became priority.

  • Brand Misalignment: The app’s visual identity did not fully reflect the brands voice and styling, being sterile instead of bubbly and energetic. That had to change.

Goals

  • Clear Community: Provide clear, accessible instructions throughout the migration process, including why the change was happening and what players needed to do.

  • In-Game Continuity: Update the visual identity to align more closely with the hospital’s modern, patient-centric brand values.

  • Promote Engagement with Microsoft Features: Highlight the new features that players would have access to once they migrated, such as improved security, cloud saves, and cross-platform support.
