AI Meditation App

For my Master level course on Human Experience Prototyping, I worked with a team to create the proposal for MeditAIte, a mobile application focused on using AI tools to improve a users wellness through

UX Design

For my Interactive Design course, my team took on the challenge of designing a mobile app.

MeditAIte is a meditation and wellness mobile app designed to help users achieve mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being.

Recognizing the diversity in user needs and preferences, MeditAIte integrated an AI-powered assistant, ZenAI, into its platform. ZenAI leverages machine learning and natural language processing to deliver personalized meditation sessions and wellness tips tailored to individual goals, moods, and progress.

Challenge

Traditional meditation apps often offer static libraries of guided meditations, which can feel impersonal and fail to adapt to changing user needs. Elevate identified several pain points:

  • Lack of Personalization: Users often found it difficult to identify meditations that aligned with their specific goals (e.g., stress reduction, focus enhancement, better sleep).

  • Low Engagement: Without a sense of progress or tailored experiences, users were less likely to maintain consistent usage.

  • One-Size-Fits-All Tips: General wellness advice lacked relevance for individual circumstances, reducing its impact.

Goals

  • Ensure Accessibility: Ensure that the design is inclusive and accessible for users of all abilities, including those with visual or cognitive impairments.

  • Align with Hospital Branding: Update the visual identity to align more closely with the hospital’s modern, patient-centric brand values.

  • Create a Consistent Visual Language: Establish a cohesive set of design guidelines that would result in a seamless, intuitive, and accessible user experience for patients and parents

Process

Preliminary Research

We started by doing indepth research into the health and wellness industry to understand

Interviews

We created a persona and used that profile to interview people who fit that profile to get an in depth understanding of what our users would want.

Ideation

We utilized the Scamper Method to organize and prioritize features based on our interviews.

Design

My team created User Flows, and mid fidelity wireframes in an effort to create a prototype to test the features.

Design: UI Refrences

Design System Refrence

  • We followed Apple's Human Centered Design System as our basis for mobile layouts.

Visual Influences

We did a deep dive for UI refrences that emphasized on calming, colors and easy to read layouts.

Wireframes

Using our userflow as a guide for the page creation, focusing on ensuring directions were clear and interactions were simple.

Prototypes

3 prototypes were made for testing to determine the viability of the product.

Challenges & Learnings

Feature developement and understanding for an AI tool took extra work on my team in order to ensure that our tool was not only viable, but also worked with in the industry with consideration of the limitations of wellness applications. Interviwers were concerned over their privacy and if the application would be too robotic, so we had to ensure our app was empathetic and clearly outlined when data was being gathered.

As a wellness app,  we needed to create mechanisms (like streaks, notifications, and gamification) to motivate users without being intrusive or causing pressure. This meant including features that allowed for those trackings and presented them to our users in a non judgemental and encouraging manner.

Proposed Features for ZenAI

Our research uncovered that many people drop off of their usual meditation app withing 20 days due to:

  • Lack of Personalization

  • Stagnant and Limited Content, and

  • Limited Schedules

Personalized Meditations

Our ZenAI Assistant was meant to utilize user data (such as user preferences, meditation history, and mood tracking) to suggest meditations tailored to specific needs.

For instance, a user reporting high-stress levels may receive a calming breathing exercise, while another seeking focus might be directed to a concentration-building session.

Dynamic Wellness Tips

ZenAI analyzes user interactions and patterns to provide actionable wellness advice. For example, it might recommend hydration reminders for users logging fatigue or mindfulness practices during high-stress periods.

Interactive Conversation

ZenAI engages users in real-time conversations to better understand their current state. Through friendly, empathetic dialogues, it can refine recommendations and encourage consistent practice. Having a voice feature was an incredibly desired featured based on our interviews.

Progress Tracking

The app provides personalized insights, visualizing progress and milestones, motivating users to stay committed to their wellness journey. With some gamified elements, such as rewards, we wanted to encourage users to continue their journies and complete goals.

Preliminary Research

From market research, we researched gaps and issues currently in the wellness market. We needed an understanding of what problems existed in the market so we knew we would be pitching a solution that had stood out in the market.

This allowed us to create personas and journey maps for our ideal user.
