How do you design an app that allows you to manage your investments?
As a proposal for the OnPath team, I was tasked to create a set of mockups to showcase what a mobile investment offering for the credit union could involve and how the benefits would increase the membership rates for the company. As the company shifted towards an online first platform

Challenges:
-
Start-up budget- This company has limited resources to dedicate to any solutions that would simply be too expensive or timely.
-
Showcase how this offering would increase conversion rates for new customers. My stakeholders were focused on the best/fastest turnaround for an increase in member count
Solution

I presented a prototype with the improved company branding and focused on including features meant to attract potential members between the age of 25 and 40.
These features included:
-
Beginner Friendly Investment features such as; round up investment and automatic deposits.
-
Financial Counseling appointment setter for members
-
Sleek Design with easy to use functionality

At this time, images of the solution cannot be shared.

Step 3: Design & Iterating
Design Process
Discovery
I began by researching the investment market, focusing on top performing Businesses, such ass Acorns, Robinhood, Cashapp, and SoFi. A competitive analysis helped to display which features were common and appealed most to our target demographic. This credit union services minority communities, so ensuring that:
-
Low barrier to Entry, and
-
Financial Education
were communicated was paramount.
To assist in understanding our target group, I sent email surveys out to understand the wants from our current members in an application, as well as their understanding and capability in investment.

Brainstorming
With the information presented, I focused on using an affinity map to better prioritize these features and build out a platform that support our target group.
Design & Iteration
Figma was my tool of choice to create a prototype that I could use to test my design with an internal group of volunteers. The volunteers responded positively to the option and after 2 iterations, I was ready to showcase my findings.

Outcome
With a presentation that focused on the benefits of the inclusion of this digital offering, the team was pleased with the results and shortlisted the project for 2025, following more discovery into the costs.
